11 • Character Breakdowns
Note: All roles in the script (except Snoopy) are elementary aged children between 6-8 years old. The ages listed by each character is the target age range for the actors to be cast in those roles.
However, casting will not be limited to them if an actor outside of that range is a fit.
CHARLIE BROWN (11-18 yrs to play a child of 7-8 yrs)
Vocal Range: Tenor or high Baritone; A3-F5 to be sing in appropriate octave per actor
Loyal, determined and a bit wishy-washy. He’s a true friend, and never gives up, even when he probably should. He is kind and patient by nature, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Although the people around him generally agree that he is a 'good' person, he struggles with what that means, and what to do with it.
SALLY BROWN (11-18 yrs actor to play a child of 6-7 yrs)
Vocal Range: Soprano; A3-B5 to be sing in appropriate octave per actor
Pragmatic and curious with a bold personality, Sally is Charlie Brown’s little sister. She finds school work in particular completely puzzling and useless. She is undaunted by these setbacks, and is very willing to try a new philosophy each day to solve the riddle of the world around her.
LUCY VAN PELT (11-18 yrs to play a child of 7-8 yrs)
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano; G3-F#5 to be sing in appropriate octave per actor
A fussbudget, firecracker and young feminist. Though Lucy is often dismissed as bossy or crabby, she dispenses sound advice for just five cents and looks out for her brother, Linus. She’s confident, strong and positive and desires to be queen one day. Her unrequited love for Schroeder is a source of endless frustration to her.
LINUS VAN PELT (11-18 yrs to play a child of 6-7 yrs)
Vocal Range: Baritone; A3-F#5 to be sing in appropriate octave per actor
Thoughtful, respectful and a deep thinker, Linus is a student of philosophy. Despite his run-ins with his older sister, Lucy, and the fact no one understands why he carries a security blanket, Linus remains delightfully hopeful. He also adores his big sister, sometimes so much that he will brush aside his genius to learn from her.
SCHROEDER (11-18 yrs to play a child of 7-8 yrs)
Vocal Range: Tenor; A3-A5 to be sing in appropriate octave per actor
Independent, artistic and down-to-earth, Schroeder is a music nerd. He is Beethoven’s biggest fan, and hates commercialism. He is a very serious musician, and though he enjoys baseball with his friends, would be happy if left to his own solitude. For this reason, he is oblivious to Lucy's persistent affections.
SNOOPY (11-18 yrs)
Vocal Range: open to Tenor, Alto, Soprano
Charlie Brown’s happy-go-lucky, imaginative beagle, Snoopy is anything but an ordinary dog. He’s one of the gang, and though he is not necessarily considerate of others, he is never malicious. His favorite things are suppertime, and pretending to take down the evil Red Baron as the World War I Flying Ace. Yet, no imaginary adventure matches a nap on his doghouse.
ENSEMBLE (8-18 yrs to play a child of 6-8 yrs)
Vocal Range: open
To play other children/part of the peanuts gang.
