Open Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 12:30pm - 3:30pm and on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 3:15pm - 6:15pm. Actors only need to attend one day of auditions.

All auditions, callbacks, and performances will be held

at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre.

Venice Family Clinic’s parking lot is available on weekends and on weekdays after 6 p.m.

Do not park at our neighbors AAMCO/Viking Motors or SGI or you will be towed.

Prepare two contrasting musical theatre style songs (one uptempo, one ballad). One song should be a 32 bar cut and the other only 16 bars. Choose songs with a “story” so you can show both your acting and vocal ability.

ACCOMPANIST PROVIDED: 

• For this audition, we encourage & prefer you to use the accompanist we are providing to have a “real world” audition experience so bring sheet music for your cuts.

• We will accommodate those that use pianist and make time for you to sing at least one song both with piano and a track if you prefer so you gain accompanist experience. 

• You can also choose to sing one with track and one with piano. 

 • We will have a playback system for tracks so make sure to provide your own track.

DANCE: Be prepared to dance with comfortable clothes and dance shoes or sneakers. If you already own tap shoes, please bring.

•   A picture - (school picture or snapshot is fine. Headshot printed on regular paper is preferred)

•   Resume or list of past shows.

•   Your conflicts for the rehearsal period (see below). All conflicts MUST be submitted prior to callbacks using the calendar provided on the audition form.

TWO CALLBACK Days are planned for this production.

Thursday, August 20 from 3:45-6:45 AND

Saturday, August 22 from 10:45am-2:45pm.

(most actors called back will be needed for both days)

Callbacks are by invitation only and  will be held at the theatre.

Weekends: November 7 through December 6, 2026 on

Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with a few Friday and Saturday evening performances.

There WILL be shows over Thanksgiving Weekend.

In ADDITION: Actors will perform numbers from the show in the Morgan-Wixson’s annual Geoffrey Awards event held on the evening of November 15.

A complete show schedule will be provided at auditions. 

Actors MUST be available for all performances, the Geoffrey Awards, as well as the week before opening (tech week). 

Rehearsals will begin on either Mon, August 24 or Tue, August 25 with music rehearsals. Parent/Cast meeting will be Wed, August 26.The rest of rehearsals will be scheduled in a combination of week days from 4:00-6:30/45pm, weekday evenings from 6:15-9:30 as well as Saturdays and Sundays – dependent upon theatre availability. A calendar with more specific time slots will be available at the audition.

Actors are not called for all rehearsals, only ones where they are being used for a scene/song/dance. We will try to limit most actors to 4-5 rehearsals a week until we reach the last few weeks. Rehearsals will be worked around actor schedules as much as possible but be mindful of having too many conflicts.

• At the audition, all actors must fill out a calendar form with all conflicts.

•  PRIOR to auditioning, make sure to check with your school choir/band/theatre director, your sports coach, any pending field/overnight trips, or any other adult who schedules your time.

• Weekends are predominantly for dance – more than 3 conflicts on those days may result in an actor not being cast. 

• There will be rehearsals on some holidays.

• All conflicts must be submitted BEFORE callbacks. 

• Limit conflicts for two weeks before opening and NO conflicts during tech week.

• If cast, any additional conflicts may result in an actor being replaced – even ones from school that you were unaware of if we are unable to work around it.

• Once cast, we finalize the schedule and cannot work with additional conflicts, early releases, late arrival to rehearsals, etc

Masks are optional, and we ask everyone to respect each other's choice to wear a mask or not. If participants are not feeling well, we encourage the wearing of masks to prevent the spread of colds.

The Morgan-Wixson Theatre is an all volunteer-run community theatre celebrating our 80th Season of entertaining audiences. Our theatre is Non-equity only.

In reference to the character descriptions that follow, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible. We will list race/ethnicity/ gender/ability when specific to the character but otherwise encourage actors of any ethnicity, identity and ability to audition for any role. We also encourage gender non-conforming, genderfluid, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We are actively committed to casting an inclusive show that reflects the community.

Bob Wallace (male presenting to play an adult of late 20’s-early 40’s) A major singing star, Bob is the guiding force behind the song and dance team of Wallace and Davis. Despite occasional gruffness, he is a deeply kind and principled man who is searching for true love.  Vocal: Baritone

Phil Davis (male presenting to play an adult of late 20’s-early 40’s)

The fun-loving song-and-dance partner of the team Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown, operator, and incorrigible ladies’ man who has a boyish charm and sex appeal. Strong ballroom, jazz and tap-dancing needed.  Vocal: Baritone-Tenor

Betty Haynes (female presenting to play an adult of mid 20’s-late 30’s) Sensible, responsible half of the Haynes sisters act. Classic elegance of quiet beauty and charm with a rich chest mix and soprano extension. Must move well.  Vocal: Mezzo-Soprano

Judy Haynes (female presenting to play an adult of mid 20’s-mid 30’s) Younger, more ambitious and slightly scheming other sister. Wholesome and adorable, sexy and flirty. Strong jazz and tap dancer.  Vocal: Strong singer with a chest mix

General Henry Waverly (male presenting to play an adult of late 40’s to mid 60’s) Retired Army general with a curmudgeonly military exterior, adjusting to retired life in post WW II America. Precise and orderly, a man of integrity.  Vocal: Open as can be more spoken

Martha Watson (female presenting to play an adult of late 30’s to mid 60’s) Once a Broadway star, now the General’s housekeeper. Very dry wit and frank with a wisecracking sense of humor. Strong singer and mover.  Vocal: Strong Singer, Belt

Susan Waverly (female presenting current age of 10 to 11 to play 9 years old) The General’s granddaughter. Lovable and outgoing. Must move very well. Vocal: Excellent Belt

Ralph Sheldrake (male presenting to play an adult of late 30’s to mid 60’s)  Jokester Army buddy of Bob and Phil’s, now a major television executive. Fast talking, loud, brash New York professional with a good head on his shoulders. 

Vocal: Baritone-Tenor with some bass

Rita and Rhoda (female presenting to play an adult of mid 20’s to early 30’s) Bob and Phil’s two-star chorus showgirls. Brash, sexy and fun. Strong dancers.   Vocal: Open

Ezekiel Foster (male presenting to play an adult of mid 30’s to late 50’s). Practical, the ultimate laid back New Englander. A man of few words.  Vocal: Open

Mike (male presenting to play an adult of mid 20’s to late 30’s)

Bob and Phil’s Stage Manager. Can be overly dramatic and often hysterical, but gets the job done.  Vocal: Open

Tessie (female presenting to play an adult of late 20’s to 30’s)

Character woman to play Bob and Phil’s secretary.  Vocal: Mezzo-soprano, belter

Ensemble (current ages 12-18 to convincingly play adults) to sing, dance and play assorted roles. The style of the show is that of a classic 1950’s Hollywood movie musical. Dance styles include ballroom, jazz, and tap.
